Garner, Emma

My work is concerned with the clothed female body and the histories and meanings associated with various aspects of costume and dress. My work extends the idea of the clothed body to consider the engendering of space and play with the idea of revealing and concealing, inviting actions in the imagination of the audience. Developments in my work led me to explore the possibilities presented by reclaimed furniture as surrogates for the human form. The furniture in my pieces become the female body and the metal strips act as an indication to dress in a three dimensional sculptural form, which gives the impression of the constriction that the female figure is put under when wearing restrictive garments.

Grzonkowski, Emma

Conceptually my work is a focus upon my own raw emotions. A reflection of self identity. A journey of emotive subjects and symbolic meanings, relating to past and previous events. which have changed me as an individual.

I have approached this subject matter by exploring with the use of symbolism and metaphorical pieces of imagery, which either hold a significant meaning, represent a feeling, sense of atmosphere and mood.

My response to this subject has been reflected through three main types of media, paint, digital imagery and film. However my main focus being the exploration of paint. I prefer using this medium as you can grasp a strong physical relationship between yourself and the surface. Paint allows me to use my work as a cathartic tool for conveying my inner emotion and mood, translating my energy in a visible way, therefore the marks which I am producing are often more significant than the imagery.

Hallahan, Greg

The theme of my project was driven with the concept from the reality of the differentiating of hierarchy within the society and how it all combines together as one. Words like interaction, layering, space, time, tension, dependency, balance etc each spawning from each other and reflecting the main theme, piece by piece while breaking it down and making it more conceivable to capture the main theme, through the use of metaphors.

Herring, Lee

My latest series of work has been heavily based upon deliberate decision-making intertwined with the chance element of experimenting with the functionality of paint as a medium. I see my practise as flirting between the two states of painting and sculpture, and questioning the viewers’ notions of the traditional beliefs within art. The intense, garish colours relentlessly conflict and highlight my inhibition to burst the boundaries of abstract painting. The naïve and child-like approach demonstrates the root of my paintings and their ability to be established as separate entities to life itself. The aura of fun I portray whilst undertaking my expressionism seems to emerge in the viewers’ thoughts of enjoyment in an intoxicating manner.

Hodgson, Martin

My work is an exploration of the archive and its influence on the image. It aims to show how the images can collectively lose their meanings and purpose when they are assembled in this format.

I am using found images to form these collections, and the way in which they will be displayed aims to show the viewer, not any relevance in their original purpose, but their meanings as a procured assemblage of images.

The way the images are presented together is key to the interpretation of the compilation. However, there is no single message in these images that I am attempting to voice. Only that the archive has a profound effect on them.

The archive is intriguing in the way it opens up an image, and allows their meanings to be interpreted as and how the viewer sees fit, by relation to their own personal experiences.

Hollads, Sarah

My work is about the relationship between fabrics and paint and how the two combine, contrast and work together. I work with the idea of pouring paint and letting it overtake fabrics, it is as if the paint is spilling out of its constraints and becoming a continuation of the material. I like the idea of two contrasting things coming together and consuming each other; putting things together that usually would not go. I like combining the force of the paint with the delicateness of the fabrics and the detail of my work. I like the way poured paint runs and by chance forms its own pattern. My work is about chance mixed with careful manipulation. I work with fashion and costume history, I recreate parts of costumes and add these to my work.

Honeyball, Yvonne

My work is related to dream sequences and the surreal; my inspiration drawn from my own life, a hallucinogenic scene from the film “The Young Sherlock Holmes”, and the work of Salvador Dali. My narratives are generally set within stories with their own narratives: Alice in Wonderland, nursery rhymes, and fairy tales. By doing this there is something instantly recognised, making the viewer more at ease, it also enables the work to be read on different levels. I deal with more adult themes within a context most will recognise from their own childhood, but by dealing with the issues in a light hearted manner, I believe it draws these two opposites together quite well. My artistic style is very illustrative based, the sketchy manner in which I work I feel also helps to underline the deeper subversive message.
